A withering leaf and a piece of gum that came loose off of someone’s sole, a cigarette butt, the foil a chocolate was wrapped in, a small stone that fell off a child’s hand, that fine thread that the girl found when straightening her boyfriend’s lapel, a blood-stained handkerchief—remnants of the lives of others. But let’s not recall them just for these.
