FINGERPRINTS OF THE DAY Fanis Lisifanis: the Government of the Lame Horses

The “known yet unknown” poet who goes under the name Fanis Lisifanis (as in Aristofanis) explicitly declares in his last poetic collection that nowadays one should grasp “a shield made of defeat as a new alphabet”. He basically prejudges on one hand the inescapable defeat of the present times and on the other hand he suggests that it should be mockingly faced as the only feasible countermeasure.

However, the case of the June 17th election results constitutes a similar situation. On one hand, the “New Democracy” officials are aware that the Public Issue poll, which was counterfeited -by mistake of course- by the “Vima” newspaper is absolutely valid and that the difference between Syriza and N.D. will be around 6%. So, they just wish “with a shield made of defeat, the third parties not to enter the fleet”, i.e. Syriza will not gain self-reliance, but it also won’t be able to form a government with any third, fourth of fifth party, given the Communist Party of Greece refusal and the different political starting-point compared to the “Independent Greek” party.

At the present time, however, the aforementioned scenario constitutes a wishful thinking and gradually less and less “New Democracy” officials anticipate it.

However, the most possible outcome is a government of lame horses. In other words, Syriza appears to be a race horse, it is common knowledge though that it cannot run fast in a race of international standards, since its trainers and stable-masters are neither particularly efficient nor tough enough to train it hard in a daily basis in order to compete against the German, American and capital wild horses.

And as if this wasn’t enough, they also have diametrically opposite points of view about the kind of food the horse must be fed with in a weekly basis and what kind of training exersices it needs.

However, it is a fact that the other political horses have been dead for quite some time and that in June 18th 2012 our country will participate in the international race only with this horse or in collaboration with the stable of a little pony called “Left Today”.

Better a lame horse than a dead one you would say. And I don’t disagree. As long as we are aware of it.

Alas, if we are blinded by our imagination and it makes us believe that we are looking at an Arabian race horse, which gallops fearless against the economic swirl, ripping it in two.
