Cornelius Castoriadis: Social Change qua Creation

Abstract:

The article presents Cornelius Castoriadis’ alternative approach to the substantial way of society’s existence and alteration. Contrary to the evolutionary concept of alteration, Castoriadis projects a ‘theory of social indeterminism’ and affronts the problem of historical being through the appearance of novel psychic/imaginary types, which have the ability to cause unexpected alterations during the course of the historical and social phenomena. Nevertheless, possible problems of his ‘history conception’ are also stressed. [pp. 85-103]
