Victor Tsilonis

Victor Tsilonis is the editor-in-chief of Intellectum journal, a Supreme Court lawyer, holder of a Juris Doctor degree from the School of Law of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and a member of the Hellenic Criminal Bar Association with distinguished judicial experience before Greek Courts, the European Court of Human Rights and the International Criminal Court.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Criminal Justice (LLM) from the University of Nottingham and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His doctoral thesis was first published in Greek in 2017 by Nomiki Bibliothiki (the biggest legal publisher in Greece) and later in English by Springer. The Jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court’ (Springer, 2020) is a textbook which covers holistically not only the issues surrounding the Court’s jurisdiction but also the ICC core crimes, i.e. war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide and the crime of aggression.

In the past he has been a research fellow at the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for four years (2005-2009) and member the “Alexiadis Research Team”, which conducted research in five Greek prisons concerning the imprisonment conditions and the respect of the prisoners’ rights in honour of the emeritus professor Stergios Alexiadis.

He is a columnist, writer and translator of articles, interviews, treatises, books and literary texts. He was also the inspirer of the electronic column “Fingerprints of the Day” and radio host of the show “Afternoon at Tiffany’s” (2012-2014). He has conducted interviews with prominent figures, such as former Attorney General of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) Carla Del Ponte, the professor of international criminal law and human rights William Schabas, forensic anthropologist Sue Black, professor of political science Ulrich Beck, professor of philosophy David Oderberg, professor of political communication Richard Katula, the awarded Scottish writer Paul Johnston, the poet Harris Vlavianos, journalist Stelios Kouloglou and the dean of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Ioannis Mylopoulos.
